Remodeling Your 3D Ideas: from Sketches to Rendering in Rhino 8
June 6 through July 25
Thursdays 6 - 8p ET
Translate your traditional analog design skills into the digital sphere, in this eight-week Rhino 8 course. You will learn all the essential tools and techniques needed to turn your sketches into a final, interactive 3D model with renderings.
Level 1 – $395
Level 2 (Standard Rate) – $450
Level 3 – $505
Level 4 – $675
What are these pricing tiers, and how should I select the right one for me?
We use a redistributive model, to ensure equitable access. Our Level 2 course price is the Standard Rate. Please consider our suggestions for determining yours here, prior to purchasing, and thank you!
The details
Whether you will be rendering your work to 3D print final models, or using the software to help communicate your ideas to clients, this Level 1 course will offer you the software skills needed to render your own designs independently, and is the perfect add-on to traditional analog design.
You will learn all essential tools and techniques on how to turn your sketches into a final interactive 3D model with renderings with digital software, focused mainly on Rhino 8. Built for people with no prior experience with 3D modeling, this eight week workshop will cover multiple aspects of digital visualization, including:
A comprehensive overview of Rhino 8
How to take a 2D drawing/sketch into a 3D digital model
How to apply material qualities to digital models
How to create visual imagery "renderings", in different styles
Course breakdown
-
Basic curves, commands, projection drawings & polysurfaces
-
Isometric & perspective views, converting curves to closed polysurfaces
-
Boolean & merge functions, iterative modeling best practices
-
Patch & network surfaces, isolating curves, improving model through detail
-
Filet, chamfer, tangent curves, identifying and fixing problems in model
-
Edges, seams, improvements, uploading to SketchFab & installing Twin-Motion
-
Creating & modifying materials in Rhino 8 & Twin-Motion, material mapping & image rendering
-
Assets, framing & image narrative, video path & rendering, file prep for 3D printing, draft for manufacturing or documentation
Prerequisites
Hi, it’s me, Ivy!
Here to explain what all these prereq’s are about
In advance of our first session, please have the following prepared:
Rhinoceros 8 software installed, for MAC or PC *
Confirm your computer has the proper system requirements to run the software
Watch the following video introductions to Rhino 8 and 3D modeling
Pick one of the three model examples that you want to be modeling for the first few weeks (Will provide via email to registered participants)
* A word from TLUP about the accessibility of Rhino 8 software
As a non-accredited educational institution, TLUP courses are not currently included in Rhinoceros’ umbrella of “schools.” Try as we might to arrange for $195 Educational Licenses for our course participants, at this time, we are unable to do so. For those wishing for an opportunity still to learn this software, we recommend the following:
Free 90 day full version download, to test out the software, if you would like to continue using as a paid-for version
Purchase the full version for $995, if you are confident you will continue to work with this software
Check in with your local accredited institution, about purchasing an educational license through them for $195
Hit us up if you’re with Rhino, or an institution and want to help us obtain educational licenses for our participants!
