Danielle Rose Byrd
is leading Sharpen a Carving Gouge & Texurizing Wood
Saturday, April 24th from 9a-12 PT // 12-3 ET & in conversation Saturday, April 17th at 4 ET via IG Live with artist/woodworker Aaron Margolis & Deirdre McGrath, future anthropologist in material culture
Danielle is a carver and sculptor working primarily in wood. She uses a range of tools and methods to produce vessels and sculptural forms with heavy doses of texture. She has written for various publications, and spent time traveling the country with Lie-Nielsen Toolworks, demonstrating woodworking and sharpening techniques. She just finished writing her first book, The Handcarved Bowl, detailing how to carve a bowl entirely with hand tools straight from a log.
“I’ve seen how systemic inequities have built a homogenous landscape not just in my field of woodworking, but far beyond it, and I want to be part of something that seeks to not only address the inequities, but dissect exactly how they were created in order to build a new framework.
These problems won’t be solved within the context of what currently exists, and I’m very excited to be part of something that recognizes that, both for what it will bring to the people it will directly serve and also to the people who may not have thought about this particular way of providing access to information.”
